The Johnson Controls M9308-AGA-2Z is a direct-mount electric non-spring-return damper actuator - 70 lb·in (8 N·m), 24 VAC/VDC, for on/off and floating control, with plenum-rated cable and a remarkable 8-second stroke. In Johnson Controls' words: "The M9300 Series Electric Non-Spring Return Actuators provide control of dampers in HVAC systems. These actuators are configured for direct mounting and do not require damper linkage. Actuators can be mounted directly to a damper shaft from 3/8 to 3/4 in. (9.5 to 19 mm) diameter and 3/8 to 5/8 in. (9.5 to 15 mm) square with a universal clamp. An optional line voltage auxiliary switch kit can be field installed to indicate an end-stop position or perform switching functions within the selected rotation range." Johnson Controls builds this as a high-speed actuator, and an 8-second full stroke is in a different class from anything else in this catalogue - the 90 lb·in M9310 in the same series takes 90 seconds, and the spring-return ranges take 24 to 150 seconds. If your sequence needs a damper repositioned quickly - fast economiser response, rapid pressure control, a tight control loop that a slow actuator would make unstable - this is the model that does it. The trade is noise: <52 dBA against <35 dBA on the slower M9310. Non-spring-return - read this before specifying. The M9300 Series holds its last position when power is lost. It does not drive to a fail-safe position. That is the opposite of the M9203 through M9220 spring-return ranges. Do not use it on an outdoor air, freeze protection or smoke damper where the sequence relies on the damper closing on power failure - that duty needs a spring-return actuator. Plenum-rated cable. The Z in the code denotes the 120 in. (3 m) UL 444 plenum cable, which allows installation in environmental air spaces such as the void above a hung ceiling. The plain -2 models in this series carry a 48 in. (1 m) halogen-free cable instead. If the actuator is going above a return-air ceiling, the cable rating is a code requirement, not a preference. On/off and floating, not proportional. Driven by switched contacts - one input opens, the other closes, neither holds position. It will not follow a 0-10 V or 4-20 mA command. For that in this series you want a model with Automatic Signal Input Detection (the AU codes), which Johnson Controls describes as allowing "automatic recognition of input signals for on/off, floating, and proportional control". Switches and feedback are add-on kits. Unusually for this manufacturer, the M9300 auxiliary switches are a field-installable external kit - M9300-1 for one SPDT, M9300-2 for two - rather than being fixed by the part number. EXCLUSIONS. This warranty does not cover (a) any failures which are not attributable to defects in materials or workmanship, including without limitation, failures caused by accidents, inadequate maintenance, misuse, unauthorized modifications or repairs, improper storage, and normal wear and tear, (b) any consumable parts or accessories, such as cutter blades, nut splitter chisels, punches, dies, chains, wedges, and strands, that are designed to wear over time or through use of the Product, or (c) electronics, motors, batteries, and engines, as these items are warranted by their manufacturer.
WARRANTY RETURNS. No Products shall be returned without prior authorization from B2E Surplus. Buyer shall prepay all shipping charges for the return of Products to B2E Surplus’ designated service location.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
